Instead of going to the gym (actually the boxing club, but gym sounds so much better) in the morning, I had my boxing session with Tony booked in for the evening. I work in the mornings now and thought that going in the evening would leave me with plenty of time to do other stuff during the day.
When I came at the gym I saw to my big surprise that Lee, my neighbour, was working at the reception. In a way I should have known that I would bump into him at this place. He looks pretty muscled and there aren’t many places around here that can assist you with getting a body like that. Unless you have your home gym, there is nowhere else to go. He greeted me with a surprised look on his face as if he could not imagine a girl like me likes to do boxing.
When I was having some polite small talk with him (how’s it going? nice to see you here, blah, blah, blah) another guy walked in and said to Lee: “You know her? Why don’t you introduce me to her?” So Lee introduced me to Robert, one of the regulars there. I had seen him around, but never paid any attention to him. Robert is the opposite of Lee; he just keeps talking. In fact I thought I wouldn’t be able to get rid of him. He just kept asking me questions and even though I tried to end the conversation a couple of times, he just didn’t budge. After a while I just looked at Lee for help and fortunately he got the hint and said: “Tony is waiting for you! You know how he hates it when people are late for their training!” So I thanked him and walked away while Lee focused his attention to Robert.
The boxing session was great! That Tony is such a funny guy. It is amazing how he is able to push you to the limit while you are having a smile on your face.
When I got in the car at the end of my training I saw Lee at the bus stop. He was obviously finished with work and he was waiting for the bus to take him home. So I stopped at the bus stop offering him a ride home. Apparently his car is at the garage. I could see that he was seriously thinking about whether or not it was a good decision. This guy must have some serious issues trusting people. Anyway, I said to him that I promised not to bite and drop him off safely and than he said yes.
When he got in the car he didn’t say much at all so I tried to start a conversation with him by asking if he liked working there. He said he just helps Tony out every now and than in turn for free training and access to the gym, but that he usually does labour work. I thanked him again for helping me get away from Robert. Lee than asked me what I thought of Robert. I told him I wasn’t sure what to think of him; he seemed nice, he just got a little too personal with some questions. According to Lee Robert really, really likes me. Great…just what I need. So I told Lee: “I just moved here. I am just trying to get back on my feet and I don’t need a guy to help me with that. I am very happy alone!” That somehow put a smile on his face.
So I dropped Lee off at home and found out that he isn’t so bad after all. He is not the most talkative person in the world, but I do think that we could get along in the future.
