Monday morning I went back to work after a weekend where I hardly seen Lee and his kids. I’ve only seen them during our weekly swimming lesson and that was it. I know it sounds stupid, but I did miss him. I wish we could spend more time together on our days off.
When I started the squad training I noticed that Annie had not showed up. In a way I didn’t care, because I was still a little bit annoyed with her. On the other hand I was curious about how she would act, but I figured she’d probably just pretend like nothing happened. During our break Mark and I talked about the party and I totally forgot that he had said he would tell me something that I should know. Well, let me tell you that my week didn’t start too good after hearing what he had to say.
About a couple of days before Annie and Pete hooked up Annie had asked Mark all sorts of questions about Lee and me. To make a long story short: Mark had the strong impression that she was very interested in Lee. She had even asked Mark if he could arrange something for her to get in contact with me outside of work. He strongly got the impression that she basically wanted to use me to get to Lee. Mark did not wanted to co-operate. Two days later I invited her to come to the beach with us because she had told me that she liked Pete and the rest is history…
Hearing this little story made me feel sick in my stomach. I wished Mark had told me sooner, but then again I might not have believed him if he had done so. The whole afternoon I kept thinking about it. Is Annie still interested in Lee? Is she using Pete to come closer to Lee? I didn’t want to draw any wrong conclusions, but fact is that her attitude started to change around the time that Lee and I changed our friendship into a relationship. Before that she’s always been really nice to me. I honestly did not know what to do with that information. But I knew that I had to confront her somehow, even if it was just to tell her she needed to adjust her attitude a bit.
So I came up with a little plan. I rang Pete to make sure that he and his girlfriend would be coming to the movie night. When they arrived I asked Annie if she could help me in the kitchen with preparing some snacks and drinks. When she came in the kitchen I closed the door and asked why she had not come to the squad training. She said that Pete wanted her to stop, because he wanted to see her more often. I knew for a fact that it was BS because the training is at 6am and not many people have dates around that time. Besides that I know Pete and he would never tell her to stop;Pete likes it when a girl exercises to stay fit.
I told Annie that I had had a very interesting conversation with Mark. I didn’t say what he had said but I think she knew what I was referring to. I asked her if that was the reason why she didn’t like it that Mark was at the beach house last Friday. Her face turned red and since she didn’t come with an explanation I kind of knew that Mark was right about her using Pete to be around his best friend. She asked me “What do you want from me?” I told her that I would give her the chance to break up with Pete. And that if she did break up with him I would not tell him what she had done. If she didn’t take that chance I would tell Pete and Lee everything. That dumb girl claimed that Pete would not believe me, but I got Mark to back me up so she knows she doesn’t have much of a chance when she comes up with a BS story.
As soon as she walked out of the kitchen she faked a headache and told Pete she wanted to go home. Pete left with her, so I am really curious about whether or not she has broken up with him yet. Now it’s up to her. I’d rather not tell Pete because I know it would hurt him so much. But maybe I’ll tell him later anyway. I am so freaking angry with her though. How dare she do that to Pete? How on earth did she think she was going to end up with Lee after starting a relationship with his best friend? I feel so betrayed by her, so I can only imagine how Pete would feel if he knew.
